How National Grid improved gas transmission asset reliability and efficiency with Beamex

In the United Kingdom, National Grid owns and operates the national gas transmission system and is responsible for transporting energy safely and efficiently. Its gas compressor stations generate a large volume of calibration data, with pressure, temperature, flow, vibration, and other instruments requiring regular calibration.

Previously, calibration data was spread across different systems, with some information recorded on paper or in Excel spreadsheets. This made it difficult to monitor asset performance centrally, assess reliability, and make data-based maintenance decisions.

National Grid chose the Beamex MC6-Ex Intrinsically Safe Field Calibrator and Communicator and Beamex CMX Calibration Management Software. The solution helped create a centralized, standardized, and paperless calibration process.

With Beamex in place, calibration work became faster and more automated. National Grid saves around 15 minutes per device, adding up to more than 4,000 hours per year. The financial savings are reported to run into millions of pounds.
